A wine glass full of red wine. Wine is an alcoholic beverage that is most popular when it is made from grapes. Rice and other fruits can also be used to make wine. Rice wine is also known as sake. When wine is made from grapes, the grapes are picked, crushed and fermented. The fermentation process occurs when yeast consumes (eats) the sugar in the grape juice and both alcohol and carbon dioxide are created. Wine made from grapes can be categorized into five types: Red, White, Rose, Dessert and Sparkling.
